Heat pump basics

Do I need to power off the heat pump or change the temp if I’m not running the pump?

i don’t want to run the pump 24/7, if the pump turns off and the water is still below the set temp on the HP can I leave it? Would that damage anything since it would still want to heat but there is no flow?

Should automatically be on stand-by, not active, with no flow.
