So normally my husband takes care of all of the pool opening stuff. But, the week the pool company was to come open the pool (two weeks ago), he suffered a heart attack and had an emergency triple bypass. Luckily he is okay and recovering nicely.

In the meantime, I cancelled the pool opening and now they can’t come until (hopefully) the end of May/June. We usually open in April (close in October), so I am not sure what our water will be like if we wait that long.

Trying to not put any burden on my husband, so asking here instead. What steps can I do now to assure an easy opening whenever the pool company gets here? Should I dump some algicide in preemptively? We are in Pennsylvania, zone 6b. Luckily it’s been pretty cold but that can change quickly. I don’t want to open to pea soup.

Any tips are appreciated. Thank you!

Are you able to test the water? We need numbers. If FC is low and you have a sump pump you can trow it in with a short hose attached. This will help with circulation while you add some liquid chlorine to maintain proper level until you open.
