Hayward XStream above ground filter top leaking...

I have a 6 year old Hayward XStream cartridge system for an above ground po. Today after cleaning the cartridge I can’t get the top to seal and water is leaking from the unit around the rim where it threads together.

Starting last summer I wasn’t able to screw the top on all the way until it clicked where the latches meet. But it sealed and water wouldn’t leak. First few times I unscrewed the top this season the same thing would occur, but today is the first time I can’t get it sealed to the point where water wouldn’t leak out.

Is this as simple as needing a new O ring? I’ve never replaced it (6 years). It looks tricky to remove, will probably need a screwdriver to wedge it out.

Any guidance is appreciated!!

I had the same issue where I couldn't get the locking ring to turn until it latched. I never fully understood why it happened though. The solution for me was to lube the o-ring real good. For some reason that fixed my issue but it doesn't seem that logical so I'm not guaranteeing it as a solution. Maybe it was because the oring was able to sit down into the seat better?? Try to lube it first and see if that helps.
