Hayward widemouth overflow hole or other overflow techniques?

I have the 18' intex pool, now with the hayward widemouth..

I added a 1/2" hole about 3/4" above the pool full line.. and ran some small pvc down to the ground.. one day it rained quite a bit, up maybe 1" in the pool.. the pipe was indeed draining, but it took 8 hours just to go down a half inch.

I kept the hole small because when the kids are in with the splashing i didnt want the water rushing out.

Is there some other trick to this, or is this about as good as it gets given the circumstances?

Nope, there's no trick.
With a 1/2 inch pipe, its gonna take a while to drain down.

Thanks, Thats what i figured.. was hoping there was a magic solution.. i guess i could go slightly bigger, may 3/4 instead and see how that goes, worst case glue part of the hole in if its too much/drains too fast when people are in moving the water.

mine has taken that long also. i really didnt want a much bigger hole that is why i went with the 1/2" pipe. i guess you could always turn on your pump and go to waste to get rid of water faster. that is usually what i do once i know there is no more rain coming for a little bit.

I plan on doing two or more 1/2 holes for this very reason. Keeps the level high before it drains but adds capacity

What about a 1 inch hole setup with a shut off valve on the pipe ? You could shut the valve when the kids were swimming/splashing and let ‘er rip for big storms.
