Hayward Tristar VSP Low temp control not found

Hello! I referred to the owner’s manual & the low temperature settings should be in the configuration menu, however, there is no option when I scroll through. Do some tristar models have it & others don’t? Do I need to worry about the lack of it? I reprogrammed our pump timers/speed to run at night right now when temps are < freezing. I am just concerned that one day I’ll forget to check the timers or something? I’m paranoid from the horrors of last February!!! (I didn’t have a pool then!!) any advice or experience is appreciated! Thank you!

Largest bit of advice I can give you is to learn more about your pad in general. While leaving the pump running helps a TON, having the knowledge to deal with very cold weather and no power is worth so much more in the long run. Looking at the weather you’ll see 60’s tomorrow, spend some time learning how to drain the equipment pad…..it may save you a TON of stress in the future.

I can check mine and see where it's at.
But like Leebo mentioned don't depend on the pump to keep it from freezing Wasn't that long ago ( years blend together these days ) when Texas got slammed with cold temp and no power and a lot of folks had frozen pipes.

Mine is right after remote control mode which brings up a question. Do you have automation and if not is it set to stand alone?
I odn't have any sort of automation so mine is stand alone. After you enable it the next menu is the temp it kicks in at

For sure! I’ve already located all the plugs & have the plan to drain & shut off the breaker in the unfortunate event that we lose power. I’ve studied some of the threads from last year so prepare.

I was just curious if the low temp thing is there & I’m missing it (not sure how) or if it’s possible that we don’t have it. Thanks for sharing y’all’s knowledge in the forums & articles. Super helpful!!

I remember seeing the remote control mode, I just don’t remember what it said . I have timers for the pump settings, but that’s the only automatic thing I have.

If your Tristar is like mine you can use the internal timer and bypass or just let the external timer do nothing. In fact of the external timer is off the pump can't run anyway
I just use one timer on mine and don't change speeds but it has a lot of options

I just was messing with mine over the holiday. It turns on at max speed and runs for 8 hours! I can’t sleep with the pump at max speed. I can hear it and just knowing the power and money being wasted... I went outside and turned it off the first time I heard it. I wish you could adjust the rpm. Also, according to Hayward it is just to protect the drive and short times below 32*F it is not needed. Not sure at what point it is needed. Maybe if you are below freezing for 8+hrs?

You can set a min and max speed also? Does it bypass those settings for freeze protection?

You can set upper and lower RPM limits for the pump. I would expect the low temp sensor would not exceed the max. My max is at 3400rpm right now for priming. I’ll lower it and see what happens next time we get some freezing temperatures.

I myself would go ahead and take advantage of Apple’s “Siri Shortcuts” feature. I’ve got a few automations setup that automatically checks the weather at certain times of the day and preforms certain actions. I can share one if you’re interested.
