Hayward Tristar 950 vsp leak.

I’m pretty sure it’s not the main seal where the basket attaches to the drive. I had an old dead drive to practice disassembly on and I thought there would be another seal behind towards the motor where the leak is but I only found a spring with 2 seals on either side over the motor shaft. Could this be the culprit?

That's the only "seal" in the pump, the shaft seal, which is a two-part item. Likely that is the issue and needs to be corrected ASAP as not doing so can cause, at the very least, bearing damage.
