Hayward Thermal Cutoff

So first time running the pump since last year. Prior to powering it, I made sure it's all primed and not running dry. I fire it up and smell that smell ... and it actually shut off before I could. This is a Hayward Power-flow LX that I've only had maybe a little more than a year and a half.

Time for a new pump? Any recommendations?

Also ... another piece of info, when I first powered up the pump it didn't start. I tapped it a few times. and it started up for a short time before sending out some smoke.

When you "let the smoke out" of a motor, it is new motor or pump time.

Right ... because as long as smoke stays in a circuit and doesn't leak out, the circuit works.
