I have a Hayward variable speed pump, model: SP3400VSP

I am experiencing a stall warning, the impeller is clear and i can turn it. When I turn it on, it sounds like it is going to spin then stops and shows stall warning. I am not sure if it is the motor or the drive assembly. Please help.

Those ecostars had bad boards and drives in higher numbers than normal. They know about it and often warranty a pump longer than standard 3 yr warranty. Call Hayward directly you may get lucky.

I have heard Hayward is offering a discounted price on the TriStar VS pump to failed EcoStar owners. Get a TriStar VS pump.

Common problem ...

Mine just died with this same error last week after about 4.5 years of use. It was actually a replacement under warranty after the original died after 2.5 years.

I was looking at Amazon and found the motor drive unit for $489 + tax.

Then I called my pool builder just to see what they said and they got me in contact with Hayward. They are offering a heavily discounted upgrade to the Tristar VS950 for $729 + tax (includes shipping). You can install yourself and get a 1 year warranty, or have it professionally installed by the provider of your choice and get a 4 year warranty. I'm having my builder install it for about $135.

From what I've read, if you replace the motor drive, you may get another 2 - 4 years and then have to replace it again. I figured I would spend a little more now and get a brand new, better built, and redesigned pump. Hopefully it will last much longer.

I just completed my order on Friday and my new pump hasn't shipped yet. That's the downside - it takes about 7-10 days to get the new pump, so no pool filter or SWCG for now. Having to add liquid chlorine by hand, skim the pool daily, and run my robot a little more often to keep it clean.

Good luck!
