I just screwed in the Hayward skimmer by splitting the gasket in two. My water level is about 2 inches below the grey line on my Intex so it was very nerve racking poking holes and and seeing water spray out of the holes.
About 20 mins later I have the skimmer mounted to the side of the pool. It has been a few hours and no leaks am I good to cut the opening? Any chance of leaking after cutting it or once the screws are water tight is the rest the easy part (besides cutting into a good pool). I wanted to make sure it wasn't leaking before I put a large hole in the pool as the small screw holes would be patchable if I need to reverse course.
