So I was closing the pool yesterday and giving it one last backwash/rinse cycle. Nothing abnormal. However when I put the multi-port setting back to filter to cycle my closing chemicals through the pool I noticed water was still coming out of the discharge hose. Not with the force it comes out with on the backwash or rinse cycle, but draining out enough that i'd probably be sucking air within an hour or so. So I switched the pump off and moved the setting to recirculate to see what happens. Same thing, water gradually pouring out of the discharge hose. Shut it down again, this time turned the dial to the closed setting. Still leaking out. I ended up just draining it below the skimmer and closing it for the season, but obviously will have to get this repaired next year. Anyone know what is going on here? Can I just put a ball valve at the discharge outlet and shut the water flow off that way when it's in an operational setting like filter? I have a power shut off switch right next to the filter so i've never turned the multi-port value without first turning the power off, nor have I ever turned the valve in the wrong direction. Also the pool and all equipment just finished their 6th season (maybe 7th can't remember).

Sounds like your multiport spider gasket may need replacing. You can find the correct replacement using the multiport model number or possibly the filter model number.
