Hayward pump question.

Looks like you may have a water leak at the seal plate area. The pic is so close I can't tell what pump assembly you have, but that would be my first assumption. There's so much built up there it's hard to see, but you might be able to remove the 4 bolts and replace a seal/gasket. To confirm, scrape some off and place it in a pile then pour some vinegar on it. If it fizzles, it's calcium, if not it's corrosion. Either way it needs to be fixed ASAP before it leaks into the motor assembly and causes more damage.
If the pump assembly is old, you might consider letting it run for another month or two until closing and just replace it next season.

The pump is over 7 years old.
It definitely has had a seal leak for a while.
There is a lot of corrosion on the metal parts which indicates a corrosive environment.
Do you store acid or chlorine tablets nearby?
Do you have a tab feeder?

It did not start happening until I put automated system in. Acid and chlorine are within two feet.
You're getting too much corrosion.
Maybe store the chemicals somewhere else.
You need a new seal but the motor is probably going to fail soon due to bad bearings.

I'm curious, are you using a acid injector (acid vessel) or just bottles nearby?
You probably have acid sitting in the pump when the pump is off due to the feeder line.

That would be upsetting.
The installer must've had some old stock to use up.Here is my system

Very nice/clean set-up. 
Many similar set-ups here at TFP. If that is indeed corrosion as we suspect, it's one or the other. Either the injection point too close to the pump as James noted or fumes lingering from the container. I'd suspect the port because if it was simply fumes everything in that area made of metal would be rusting.

Once upon a time, I kept my acid in a storage shed. The shed and everything in it was rusted in one season. Total disaster.
