Hi everyone,

I am hoping someone has the answer to my incredibly frustrating ordeal. I’m desperate at this point!

We have a 30 ft above ground pool and a Hayward power flo lx pump. For reference, I included some pictures. We are having to open our pool this year on our own due to unfortunate staffing issues with the pool company we were using. No fault of their own but man, they make this look easy and it sure isn’t for me ha!

The strainer basket and lid, picture 2. The o-ring was beyond its lifespan, stretched out and the lid wouldn’t close properly. So, we bought a new ring and I then put the lid back on and thought I sealed it shut as best as I could. We then turned everything on to test and it seemed to hold up. Well, we turned everything off and water began coming out of the basket lid and was making a sound like air escaping. So, clearly it’s not sealed well enough. I am wracking my brain trying to figure out how to get the perfect seal. Is there something I’m missing?? Please help!!!

Did you apply silicone lubricant to the o-ring? That helps. Also, I find that on SOME pumps, hand tight doesn't always get the seal it should, so I give it a tap (TAP, not BANG) with a rubber mallet to be sure.

I had the same issue on my Hayward pump basket lid ! I lubricated the seal with vaseline it seem to work for me ! Good luck 👍

Just a heads up, Vaseline is a petroleum product and over time will deteriorate rubber. Better to use a silicone lubricant like those specifically designed for pools.

Did you buy a Hayward Gasket or a knock off? Use

Hayward SPX1500P Strainer Cover O-Ring. For lube use

Hayward SPX0327 1-Ounce Jacks Multilube (Limited Edition).

Both can be ordered from Amazon....
