I removed my Hayward Colorlogic light since the bottom of the light had loosened in the niche placed in gunite pool. Upon investigation I noticed a groove in the bottom of the niche, but nothing like a lip or metal or anything for the clip on the light at the 6:00 position to latch on to. Does the clip just sit in the groove and the 12:00 screw hold the light in place or am I missing a part of the niche?

What you're describing sounds correct, a small tab at 6 and the screw that holds the light in at 12. If I'm not understanding correctly, a picture would be very helpful.
