Hayward Heater, possible to add thermostat

So I have a Pool heater for my 21ft above ground pool. Its a Hayward Heat Pro HP-2337. The unit basically just has a dial on it where you can set the intensity of the output? It's rated for 2300W.

I am wondering, without running the unit 24/7 is there a way that I can install/retrofit basically a temperature control capability on this thing so that the unit will maintain a set temperature?

I have a feeling this is a lost cause but figured I ask. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It already has a thermostat installed right? It should kick on/off based on where that dial is set and the current temperature of the water.

Just keep track of the temp with a thermometer in the water.
