Hayward H300 Won't Stay Lit

I have been taking care of my pool myself for about 4 years. Opened, closed, replaced filter motor, etc. This one has me stumped. My Hayward H300 Pool Heater won't stay on. When I turn it on, it will light, but after about 3 seconds, it clicks off. I have replaced the Pressure Valve and the Ignitor/Flame Sensor, as well as cleaned out all the gas jets. Nothing has helped. Any advice?

Thanks

Which model of H300 do you have? ED1, ED2, FD? Have you checked to see of the heat exchanger is sooted up? Also, when you changed out the ignitor, is where it connects to the board solid or does it wiggle?

James, my HC300 is not digital, so no error codes, just the failure.

Paul, the ignitor/flame sensor gets attached towards the front with 2 screws, so it is held in place well. There does not appear to be a lot of soot, and when it does light up, the flame is blue. But, it then turns off after about 3 seconds. Also, the heater was already here when we bought the house about 12 years ago. I can tell you that there is no designation beyond HC300, if that helps.

I'm not sure which heater you have. I don't recognize the HC300 model. Can you post a picture of the heater?

One picture of the whole heater and one of the inside with the front door off?

Does the heater have a data label inside the cabinet on the floor?

I've never seen a "HC300" designation on a Hayward unit.

Sounds like a milivolt unit and not a electronic spark ignition unit.

Not sure what "coil" that wireform is talking about.

Here are the pictures of my heater. I never even took notice of the inside label. It is an ED1. Thanks for the heads up. I really appreciate everyone's willingness to assist.

Seeing that it is actually lighting, I wonder if the control module isn't having issues in getting the signal from the ignitor that it lit. You said you replaced the ignitor so I would assume all is good there. So the next thing would be the control module of which the ignitor plugs into.

It might be the control not sensing the flame or the flame not getting fully developed due to low gas flow due to low pressure or maybe clogged orifices or burner tubes.

Maybe the HAXMOD1930 Control Module.

However, I'm not sure and you don't want to just throw parts at it.

The heater is old enough that you have to seriously consider whether it's worthwhile putting a lot of money into repairing it.

There's a red LED on the control module, is it flashing?

If yes, how many flashes?

Sorry for the delay. Here are the close ups of the controller unit. Additionally, the "system normal" light on the front of the heater is lit, for whatever that's worth. When lit, the flame is blue and lit on all tubes.

Thanks again.

It's a Hayward, check all the connections!

IME on those old haywards (not just heaters), simply going through all those spade connectors and making sure they're clean and tight has worked wonders. It's always the first thing I do if I don't have a quick diagnosis.
