Hayward filter - can I take mulitport valve housing off for winter

The mulitport valve that sits atop the sand Heywood filter is attached to the pump via a semi-rigid hose. Hose was replaced in the spring and a very snug fit. As I am breaking down the system for winter, I can not get the hose to detach at either end.
I am considering taking the mulitport valve keeping hose attached, because it won't come off, to the pump and bringing that indoors for winter. I would cover the sand filter opening. I am wondering if this is a viable sensible solution.

You can do that, but of course anytime you remove the MPV keep in mind you could potentially run into other issues like the center stand pipe and laterals trying to lift upwards a bit when you lift "up" on the MPV to remove it. Or the MPV could be stubborn when trying to reattach it to the filter collar. But yes, you can do that if you have to.

Thank you. I tried to get that Darn hose off, using the hair dryer and the plumbers wrench, and I just can't and been low-key freaking out about taking the valve head off for the winter. Thank you

Another option - If it becomes one of those things you just don't want to do (removing the MPV), you could always just cut the hose off. Using a sharp blade, cut a line on each end of the hose to remove it. Then just get a new hose for next season.

My fear is getting the MPV back on in the spring. Perhaps cutting the brand new hose would be the better option, but presently I can't get the hose off on either end, so the spring may have a whole new set of issues.
