Hayward EC65 Check Valve Replacement

I think that we have been looking at this incorrectly.

The video shows that the check valve can come out the front.

OP says we are dealing with an EC65 filter. The videos you linked to are for an EC40 which has a different type of CV.

There are a few different models. So, maybe it's different.

Ok, I don't think that there is a clip to remove it from the front.

When you are pressing the tab, are you pressing it towards the inside of the filter or the outside?

It looks like you press the tab with the ridges towards the inside of the filter.

Ya, I can read, thanks - it's in, like, 20pt raised font, all caps. Hard to miss. Hurts my hand when trying to lift because the raised text digs into my hand.

I push in the tab - it's pushed in enough to clear the clip. But no amount of lifting will get the Dang thing to budge.

But thanks for chiming in. I dunno what I'd do without your help.
To remove the valve soak the top and sides with penetrating oil (krown, kroyl, liquid wrench etc.) Let it sit and penetrate for about 20 minutes. Release the locking tab. Take a small crowbar placing the curved end under the elbow assembly and as close to the check valve end as possible. Lift directly upward very abruptly so the crowbar acts a hammer. The elbow assembly should pop out after two or three hits. I had the same problem and this is how I solved it. There is a risk to cracking something but mine didn't and quite honestly there is nothing to lose.

The check valve in my Hayward EC65 is broken. From the diagram in the manual, it looks like all I need to do is remove this elbow and the valve is in there - easier said than done! This thing won't budge. I can pull back the tab no problem, but no matter how hard I pull up: nothing. I've tried wiggling side to side, up and down, I don't think this thing will ever move. Is there a trick to this? Or is it just full of years of DE and other debris?
I needed to replace my check valve because DE was getting back into the pool. It was certainly a bugger. No matter what I did it wouldn't budge. Finally, I put a small screwdriver in the tab to keep it open, scraped out what packed in dirt I could and sprayed a penetrating oil in several times. Then I placed wooden blocks under the elbow, as tight as possible to the elbow, and gently pried up using a flat bar while gently tapping the sides and end of the elbow with a hammer. The tapping loosed up the dirt and allowed the penetrating oil to do its job. SUCCESS!!! Hope this helps. p.s. My check valve was completely missing.

Just figured this out on an ec75 filter. Place a J hook pry bar under the elbow nearest the tab. While pressing the tab, pull the pry bar up abruptly to dislodge the elbow. It may take a couple of jolts to dislodge it. Dirt is the culprit which makes it stick
