Hayward automation stuff

Hi All!!
So my pool equipment is currently controlled by a GLX-PCB-MAIN board.
I am upgrading this to a GLX-PCB-PRO board with the latest revision.

I also am adding in a AQ-CO-HOMENET. For smarter controls and hopefully some alerting capability. Not quite sure what all it can do yet but looking forward to finding out.

In order to get the AQ-CO-HOMENET connected will a AQ-CO-SERIAL work?
Or is the AQL2-BASE-RF required?

Also i currently have a GLX-LOCAL-PS-4 controller on the GLX-PCB-MAIN board. Will this controller work on the GLX-PCB-PRO? Or will this also need to be changed?

Unfortunately reliable information on any of these products are very hard to find. And I have called Hayward - they were not helpful at all. They basically said they do not have tech support available any longer on the phone and all they can do is send me a link to their online FAQ. Or call an authorized dealer.

Welcome to the Hayward world after being acquired by investment firms.

I have not seen anyone on here who really understands their automation. And they seem to have made their product names and manuals as confusing as possible.

If you figure it out please give us an update.

All those parts are from the older Goldline/Prologic automation. they have since moved on to the Omnilogic line and really don’t seem to do much with the older stuff.

If you were going to be upgrading any of those controllers make sure you compare prices to a replacement OmniLogic base system. It may be cheaper to just go that route and replace it all with a more modern controller that already has web and Internet features included and is still maintained by Hayward. The GLX-PCB-PRO you posted is a pretty expensive board up here at least.

I’ve never had any problem figuring out their automation products Functions by reading the manuals but that is for the Omnilogic line, maybe they’re older models don’t have as good manuals?

I just had a quick look at the pro logic manuals and this looks like the precursor to the Omni logic. Similar format similar cabinet similar manual.

The AQL2-BASE-RF is a 900Mhz system so this sounds like it’s a proprietary wireless system before they move to regular Wi-Fi with the Omni logic. That alone scares the pants off me.

I checked out the release notes on the Aquaconnect app and it looks like they are still maintaining it but the reviews aren’t very good.

It’s stated right in the manual:

To communicate with the ACHN (Aqua connect homenet) an AQL2-BASE-RF Wireless Base Station must be connected to the Pro Logic or Aqua Rite Pro. The older AQL-BASE-RF is not supported and cannot be used.

Some quick googling shows that the Omni logic HL-Base Which is the entire cabinet with everything you need seems to go for around $1300 US but I only looked at a couple websites. So make sure you add up all the items you’re looking at buying and if it cost more than that don’t bother. No sense investing in older tech. The HL-Base has an ethernet port right on it so you can hardwire it to your home network and skip all the Wi-Fi and wireless headaches.

however the pro logic stuff being so old you may be able to get amazing deals on it and if you already have a ton of equipment invested in it it would likely make sense to keep working with it.

Did some more reading and it looks like replacing your GLX-PCB-MAIN for a GLX-PCB-PRO will convert your system from an aqua logic which is bloody ancient nowadays (early 2000’s) to a pro-logic system (manuals last updated in 2010).

Aqualogic was made by Goldline and not Hayward. They were bought by Hayward sometime in the past.

So still from all I am reading just double check your pricing to make sure you’re not throwing money away on a really old system when you could move to a newer system.

Its all so confusing. I decided to just go ahead and update my ancient aqualogic system which came with my house to at least a bit newer prologic. I did this because mostly all the parts are the same and the wiring is the same. I replaced the main board, the RF antenna and the display unit. I added the home connect.
Its all working fine.

I just have a problem with my pool/spa setup. My spa is connected with an overflow which goes on every 10 minutes (with a caretaker99 cleaning system).
What connection is for the spa temp sensor? Its saying spa sensor circuit open, the board has the pool/spa sensor shared. My spa is on a different filter and pump.

The sensors all connect to the left side of the main PCB. See image below.

Three sensors are included with the Pro Logic. A water sensor and an air sensor must be installed at all times for proper operation. An additional supplied sensor can be used for either solar or dual equipment function. If both solar and dual equipment functions are desired, an additional sensor will need to be purchased.

It would depend on which sensors are programmed to be enabled.
