have hayward 400 hdp model spa heater,,, went to start after running fine 2 days earlier,, heater would not ignite,, goes thru its 3 cycles of trying to light then displays code,, can smell gas so assuming gas pressure not problem,, tested igniter and it works..... have tried doing the 3 cycle start at least 6 times same result,, can hear and tell it is trying to fire but wont ignite heater, researched everywhere only real explanation and posibble fix has been clean unit and injectors that has not fixed please if anyone had same or similar issues,, im desperite not wanting to call tech if something i can do to check on possible problems thx

Also, when you get a second Alan, can you fill out your signature area with all your pool info. It helps folks answer any questions you may have.

It might be clogged orifices or burners.
Possibly a gas pressure issue.
Maybe the igniter is not getting the correct voltage.
Check those things if you feel comfortable doing that.
Are you sure about the model number?
Is it propane or natural gas?
How old is the heater?
Do you have a picture of the heater and the heater label inside the heater?

Not sure about orifaces cus don’t know where located,, burner igniter works fine tested it 1st has enuf volts, don’t know what gas pressure is but no problem smelling propane when going thru cycles, don’t think that is problem It’s a hayward w series Hayward 400 hdp is what’s listed on machine as model #. Heater 5-6 years old Will post pic

If it's getting enough gas and the igniter works, then the gas would ignite.
Is the propane tank full and are all gas valves open?
