Recently I had to replace a cracked ring lock. It was then I noticed the top of the filter would not fully seat with the base when the O ring was in place.
Cleaned and lubed everything and still can not get the top to sit flush with the lower 1/2 of the filter. Tried several new O rings to no avail.

engages the base well without the top of the filter on. Cant get the top to fit the base with the O ring on

Hears what I finally found out.
1. When replacing a new lock ring you have to use a rubber mallet to get it on the upper portion of the filter tank. If not done will not engage the threads on the base.
2. The upper portion of the filter unit does not fit INTO the base but rests on the O ring itself. You need the lock ring on to uniformly compress the O ring as you turn the lock ring.
3. It makes more sense to replace the whole filter than just the ring itself. Cost of a new filter without the motor approximately $350. Cost of the ring itself $250 and you
run the risk of breaking it pounding it on with a mallet.
