Harley's Pool

Explains the difference and why...its on a pump, but works the same with filter. You don't need high-temp on the filter.
Ahh that makes sense! So high temp for my pump and normal union on my filter?

Is this something Lowe's would have or home depot? So the union attaches to the outside of the threads vs using the male adapter?

Pool store should have, HD/Lowes will not...it is pool equipment.

The union attaches with threads to the filter, but unlike your adapter, you cannot over tighten because there is an oring between the union and filter to seal.

Then there is another o-ring on the other side, under the locking ring to seal your pipe to fitting you just put in the filter.

Lubricate all o-rings with silicone LUBRICANT...not sealant. Magic Lube II is silicone.

Do you have an example listing from a pool store? Or Amazon? Might have to order because all I have is Leslie's and might not have in stock.

I don't know the size of the opening on the filter. Go measure it...did the fitting fit? What was the size of the white fitting? What is the size of the pvc.

Have to know both.

I believe it's 1.5". The PVC adapters I bought for and are 1.5".

Then I have these that I'm currently using to connect my old bestway pool hoses.

I've lost track of where you are.

The best recommendation is that the filter and the pump should have unions.
Pump takes 2, inlet and output. Not sure if these fit your pump.
Filter likely takes 3, input, output and waste. Not sure if all are threaded.

Ahh gotcha. I was planning on keeping the flexible hose that came with the pump/filter. Flexible PVC hose.

About the teflon tape- you really aren’t supposed to use that on threaded pvc (although i do & have with no noticeable ill effects) but instead use plasto joint stik if a normal tightness when “naked” allows for leaks
I remove most all my threaded connections for winter otherwise I would probably seek out the plasto stik for more permanent connections.
The deal with all the unions is so you can easily disconnect each piece of equipment for maintenance if needed without having to cut anything so keep that in mind as you are planning.
If you can’t find the appropriate magic lube for the o rings you can also use danco faucet grease (its in the faucet repair area)

I plan to leave the pool "open" through winter. Only hesitation is pollen season. But I still like the idea of unions for repairs, etc.

I'm going to install everything Friday hopefully. Ordered most of the stuff from Amazon. Need to pick up the ball valves, PVC pipe, and another box adapter from Lowe's.

AWESOME! Great job!

Added salt to the pool. Did a salt test tonight and it was 3400ppm.

Going to turn on the swg tomorrow... But very lost on how long to run it. I run my pump at 24/7 on low speed, and I've looked around the forums/blog and some run it 24/7 also, but idk if it's possible with the swg I have.

You may find that is a too high of a salt level for the intex unit. They can be finicky with salt levels over 3k ppm - be prepared to dilute the pool to satisfy the unit and rid yourself of the dreaded high salt light. I found all my units were happy around 2800-2900 ppm but ymmv. Strips & meters have a variance of +/- 500ppm while the Taylor k1766 drop test’s variance is +/- 200ppm.
I found the drop test essential with the Intex unit to prevent the high/low salt lights. With colder water you may get away with a higher salt level but as the water temp increases the unit may become unhappy.

Your unit can only be set to operate normally for 12 hours max.
“Boost” will run the unit 8x’s the set amount then return to normal operation. I never used boost - liquid chlorine is much simpler and faster and preserves the life of the cell.
With that size pool & swg unit I fluctuated between 6-8 hours depending upon the time of season. Possibly 10hrs in the dog days of summer. Having cya in the 70/80 range in the heat/uv of summer helps.
It’s built in timer will just turn it on again at the same time tomorrow. So long as the pump is set to run while the swcg is on you’re good to go.
always sure your bets with liquid chlorine before parties etc as the swg takes too long so you never want to try to use it to make up for a deficit in fc.
One other note- incase of power failure/gfci trip the intex units must be reset- they will not just resume normal operation once power has been restored.
