Bet advice, copy a plan and stick to it, makes the job that much easier!
I used this as my feferrence, I recently purchased a Waterway DE filter only ($800 just for that) for my above ground ,16 x 32 x 3.5 deep pool, I already had a 1 1/2 hp motor that worked fine) I originally I was wanting/considering just a cartridge filter, but was talked into getting this, for the cleanest water, my old DE I have had well over 25 years (+3 liners also) grids are shot/impacted and my pressure rose way too quickly maxed out after maybe 15 min of running cleaned , tried dishwasher detergent pods and soaked overnight, high pressure rinsing, nothing worked, grid assembly obsolete, generic ones that may or may not work were anywhere from $4-$700. Almost done! I had to repipe everything, old Waterco was different inlet/outlets. My question now, it has a backwash valve, my old filter had a multiport (I was told that I could not use on this filter). I am curious about how to vacuum, and can you do it to waste? I'm disabled and my setup is surrounded with river rock, slow but not dead. Day 4 now, work before it gets too hot then I am done. My first screwup, I dropped the leaf skimmer basket, attatched to the motor, and a large section broke off (oops) looks like about $30 to replace that. Does anyone use those Debri shields/nets on the skimmer basket! Looks like a good concept as long as you keep an eye on it!
