I am purchasing a house with an old Hallmark pool that I would like to resurface with Gunnight or Cement. I know the pool cannot be saved, but want to leave the existing hole and just resurface. I don’t want to do a liner. What do you all think the approximate cost would be to resurface the pool. I know it will need new filter and such but the biggest expense would probably be the resurfacing. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. The pool is As Is, so we know it’s an issue.

Welcome to TFP.

You are not resurfacing. You will be constructing a new gunite/plaster pool in the existing hole after you demo the existing pool. It will cost you the price of the demo + the price of the new pool.

Talk to Pool Builders in your area and get a few bids for the project. This may give you some ideas of what is involved...

If the pool is structurally sound as is, A custom liner could cost you $4k-$8k installed depending on exactly how custom it needs to be. Demo plus a new gunite pool will be dozens of thousands. $50-$80k, possible more. The equipment and plumbing costs will be the same to fix of anything is needed.

Some people just don’t like liner pools. Your yard, your money, you do you. Just wanted to show the stark contrast in possible prices. Good luck either way and we’ll help every step of the way if you’d like.

I had a similar dilemma. Se my post here:

Starts at post #79. Cost around $25k. I would much rather have paid about $6000-$7000 for a liner track and liner but couldn't find anyone who would so it (I also don't like liner pools but you gotta do what you gotta do)!
