In The Industry
Difference between Shotcrete and Gunite is the way it’s mixed, Shotcrete is mixed at a concrete plant by a computerized system and trucked to the job site to be pneumatically applied with no water added during application, Gunite is mixed at the job site dry pneumatically pumped to the nozzle and water is added at that point to make it the consistency that best meets the crew’s needs. Too much water during the application can be detrimental the finished product.
Exposed Shotcrete/Gunite to water such as in your case is not good for many reasons. Neither is water proof and because it’s able to absorb its becoming weaker and the steel cage embedded in the shell is rusting and deteriorating. The water if given enough time can saturate the earth on the outside of the pool shell making it unstable.
