The Return of T.O.M. - the Terribly Orange Monster

Honestly, he cleans better than the Dolphin Nautilus CC

Ode to a Pool Bot
Have any music for it yet? Punk, Rap, Metal, Funk?
It "was" a direct rip-off parody of Eminem's "Without Me".

On Topic. The Triton PS Plus has gone back to Maytronics twice in less than 2 years, under warranty both times.

Ok thanks not familiar with Eminem's work.
It was Friday night, I thought you may have had a creative breakthrough, (hey). Just scrolled up and saw the edit :whip:
Good news about your bot, hope it settles in for you.

Best wishes moving forward. Did you see Matt's tear down thread ? The conclusion was to keep it out of the water when not in use and also out of the colder water altogether. The repairs are the last several pages.

The Triton PS Plus, which is the same as the S300i line of robots, cleans better than the style of the Nautilus CC. With the higher water volume, you would THINK the Naut would be better.

The fact that my Robot has gone back to Maytronics twice under warranty is troubling. @JoyfulNoise has a good and 5 year long saga of his robot (basically, the same model, and S300i). I have to agree with him that the robots should not live in the water. Which means the daily timer features that these robots have, are meaningless.
If I were to replace my robot in the future, I think it would be with one of the S200 type, which are less expensive. They clean better, but they do not seem to have a very long life.

Yep. Glad you linked the other thread. One of my friends @deerocks has a pool robot that is battery powered and needs to be recharged between sessions. This purposely gets the robot out of the water. I also have kept mine underwater for 2 years! I leave it in year round to clean every day. I think as a minimum I'll pull it out once swim season is over.
On why the 300 style robot cleans better, I think it has to do with the openings on the bottom. The Naut has 2 very small openings which lead to the filters. The Ps Plus has a larger single opening that goes through the basket. The basket can hold much more debris than the two filter frames.

He pointed out some “fatal flaws” in the overall design (that are likely true for all the newer models) - lets hope Maytronics takes some notes & passes the info along so changes are made.
They do have someone active on the forum after all. It would be a shame for them to throw away a loyal customer base of thousands if the downward trend continues. Disposable bots at premium prices is not a very good long term business model.

It would be a better business model to respect their customers and sell internal components so that customers who are able can rebuild their robots. Currently NONE of the major electric motor OEM components inside the main drive assembly are available for purchase and I have confirmed this with at least two different brick and mortar shops that sell Dolphins. Your ONLY option is to buy a completely new drive assembly when it dies OR try to find scavenged parts on eBay. Most of the motor internals being sold on eBay are by people outside the USA and many are sold as not working/spare parts.

The fact that Maytronics actively keeps these motors from being repaired says all you need to know about their business model and profit motive.

I pull my Aquabot out after use. Once a week after oak drop, maybe two 3 hour cycles, but usually 1. Going on 9th season with no repairs. Cordless will be my next purchase.

I have found everything to have gone to crud since the world shut down. Quality control seeminlgy means nothing to anyone at the moment and reinforcement products to stock the empty shelves is the only concern. Even if they are junk.

That's what the pool and beer are for! Forget the world, enjoy life while you can.
