I have an above ground, 20 round. The water on top of the cover is really gross. Last year we tried to get the cover off without dumping all the Crud in and failed. Would it be ok to drain the gross water, pull the cover off, then refill? The level is already down before the skimmer though, and I'm not sure if draining it lower would possibly damage or collapse it.
Gross water on top... Drain or deal with it?

If you can get the water off the cover, do it. As long as the pool is at least half full, it should be stable. Refill it with fresh water as soon as possible.
