Hello from a new 14,500 gallon in-ground plaster spa+pool owner looking for education and resources for maintaining the pool by myself.

Have been skimming every day, brushing every other day and vacuuming every week or so. Chemistry has been a bit tricky but using the pool school links and also Swim University to guide me.
Looking for help before I clean the filter for the first time and also for guidance on if the hot tub/spa (attached to the pool) needs to be cared for differently than the pool.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to TFP! Looks like you are off to a good start with taking care of your pool. Well done!

I do have to ask what test kit are you using? That is the most important part of taking care of your pool.

Thanks @kimkats ! Oh - sadly right now I am just using test strips I got off Amazon, but when I have a bit more $ to spend, I will be getting one of the Taylor kits as recommended on this site. Or maybe asking for it as a Christmas gift, haha. I also have taken the water to Leslie's for the free testing 1-2x to see if it matches the test strips (not really).

Don't even bother with the test strips. They could cause more harm than good as they are so far off most of the time :(

I would put a good test kit on hour letter to Santa for sure! You will end up saving money in the long run due to not driving to the pool store, less chemicals needed and such stuff as that.

As for the spa so long as they share water you are find to just treat the pool water so long as the spa is getting some of that water.
