I have a friend who wants to put in an in-ground concrete pool. For some reason, though, he's having trouble getting a quote except from one builder. The pricing from this builder seems very high and changing all the time. Initially it was $120K for a 18X36 3.5 ft and 5.5ft in depth. No patio. He wanted to add a hot tub and the price went towards 200k. Ok, I get things have gone up, but really? Does anyone have any info on costs in the Triad area or even NC from recent builds? Also, can anyone recommend a reputable builder in this area?

We live about an hour west of Greensboro, NC. We had a hard time finding contractors just because demand is so high, they cherry pick their jobs. We ended up going with a fiberglass 14' x 35' with a 10' tanning ledge. It's ~4' to 6'6" at the deep end. Put in a slide, and have a good amount of concrete all the way around. We have ~$74k in it. My suggestion is to keep shopping around. If your friend is set on concrete, I think you'll be in > $100k regardless. We've been very happy with our fiberglass pool, going on our third year.

Reach out to pool builders in Charlotte and Raleigh, and even Wilmington and New Bern (if you haven't already). They all use the same subs from all over the state. The builder sounds like he doesn't want the job but will take it at $200k!
He's going to have to wait until 2025 - he won't get one this year.
