Green to clear?

2 days ago I began the slam process on my 18,000 gallon above ground pool. It started out looking like a green pond. After two days of keeping the FC level at 10 is now a blue pale green color, but still not clear. I'm getting frustrated and wondering if there is anything else I should be doing?

Just keep up with it. the SLAM process isnt an overnight fix. It will take some time. The longer you can keep your FC at SLAM level the quicker it will go but again it will take time. Just make sure to brush and vacuum often to keep things mixed up and get the dead algae out.

The best thing to do is open a can of POP–Pool Owner Patience. Your pool did not get green 2 days and it will not clear in 2 days. I'm not certain but I'll bet the average time it takes to complete a SLAM properly is about a week. Do not despair and stop the process! Keep up with the SLAM procedure and you'll be rewarded with a sparkling clear pool in no time.

When you can, please post your chemistry testing values. Also, add your pool info in your signature block. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks! Guess I need to just keep going. So I started the slam process when I was off for 3 days, I work the next 2 days. I work 12 hr shifts so I won't be able to constantly put bleach in to maintain the level at 10. I'm afraid I'll lose all my progress I've made. Would it be a bad idea to increase the level to a lot higher then 10 to hopefully keep the pool where it's at?

Sorry it hasn't taken so long to reply. I'm now at day 9 of the slam process. My water is pretty much blue but still cloudy. I can't see past about 2 ft in the pool. Current readings
FC 8- I added more bleach to get it up to 10 after I got this reading.
Ph 7.4
Cya 30
Any suggestions?

Your Shock level at a CYA of 30 is FC=12. It is 40% of the CYA level.

Using your full shock level will enhance your ability to complete the SLAM.

Take care.

I feel for you with the 12 hour shifts... just make sure you are brushing it everyday and twice a day if you can... I didnt see a pool size but maybe you can "phone a friend" who will run over at lunch time and throw in some bleach... I experienced this when trying to open a pool when I was working in the oilfield. I was pulling 12 hour shifts with a 1 hour commute on each end of my tour. I added bleach and brushed the pool and backwashed the filter, before and after my tour. Luckily I have a wife (of 34 years) who would dump bleach in at lunch for me. My worst slam only lasted 6 days.. (your results may vary).. Keep it up. This TFP system is the greatest thing since sliced bread.! Carry On!
