Green foam

I've been having a hard time getting my pool clear this year. My cover ripped over the winter, and I ended up with tons of leaves and debris in my pool. I've used my net to get as much out as possible, but I haven't been able to see the bottom if the pool to get it clean. We have been working with our local pool supply store to resolve the issues, and get our pool clear. After getting our water balanced it was still green, and we couldn't see the bottom. They told us we needed to add "Back to Blue". We added this as directed, and instantly had large globs of green foam on top of the water. We contacted to pool company to inquire about this. They quickly said it isn't supposed to do that. We are now at a loss. We don't know what is going on or how to fix it. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Welcome to TFP!!:handwave:

You really only need two things to clear the pool, chlorine & an accurate test kit.

My first suggestion is to stop going to the pool store. Their only response it to sell you something.

I will tell you, it didn't turn green overnight and it will take time to clear. But, we can teach you how to get it sparkling and keep it that way for a lot less money than the pool store.

Not much credence is given to pool store testing around here. While you would think that a "professional" would be the best, unfortunately in most cases it is quite the opposite. Between employees who blindly trust the word of chemical sales representatives and high school kids working in the pool store for the summer you end up with poor results from their testing. But, what can you do?? We base our pool care system on accurate testing and only adding what the pool needs, when it needs it. To do that you need your own accurate test kit. Order a TF100 and at least include the XL option. That will give you what you need while you are clearing the pool, and probably enough reagents for a couple of years normal use.

While you wait for it to get delivered, you have a homework reading assignment. Start with ABCs of Water Chemistry and Turning Your Green Swamp Back into a Sparkling Oasis

It looks like that except green. From what I have found I think it's algaecide overdose. I've been able to get most of it off the top, and read that it should clear up in a couple of days. Any suggestions other than wait it out?
