So we have automation and a swcg. We are going for 10 days. We don't have a cover. Is it risky to just leave the pump running? We have a vs pump but leave it on 24/7. Should we just ask a neighbor to clean the skimmer for us? We just put our pool in August last year and just reopened it but in that time our pool has been pretty easy to maintain other then lowering the pH here and there. Also, it probably will be in the 70s, low 80s when we are gone. So not too hot. We have cameras as well so we can check on it, I suppose.

Yes, I would recommend asking a neighbor to clear out the skimmer once to be safe. Also if you have another suction side line (main drain, pool port) open to make sure it’s taking water from both just in case the skimmer somehow gets blocked.

You could always raise the FC to SLAM level before you go to be sure, too.

Have a good trip!

How much debris does your pool get? If you need to empty your skimmer weekly, I'd ask a neighbor or teenager to do so (pay the kid) and leave it at that.

It doesn't get too much debris but we are planning on paying a kid to also check on our cat so I thought he could also want the skimmer. So it's not bad to just continue to keep the pool pump running?

We do. I always think of the main drain as a way to empty the pool but it's just a way to filter water out, right? We haven't used it yet.
