My pool uses 1.5" plumbing and I want to DYI install a Core35 SWG which uses 2" unions. Is it as simple as getting 2 adapters to move to 2" after the heater and back to 1.5" after the SWG? I want to make sure that this doesn't cause problems as I am by no means an expert here.

Also - does anybody have a viewpoint on the Core35? I like this one because it is a plug-in model which means I don't have to mess with the electrical work.

Yes.
Won't cause any problems. Make sure it is schedule 40, not DWV.

The all-in-one design looks handy, but allow sufficient spacing and location to be able to see the controls.

Read through this to compare Circupool options:

I like the RJ series. The 5% increments in output really reduce the number of times you need to change the output, particularly if you have a large unit relative you your pool size. (as in your 30/35K and 11K pool).

You also want a way to turn off the SWG if the pump is off...might read this:

One possible advantage of the RJ series is that the cell can be replaced separately (and maybe less expensively) when it wears out. But with modern electronics these days, that’s becoming less of an issue since they all seem to wear out sooner than they should.

My RJ series came with union adaptors so I could use either 1.5" or 2" pipe. My plumbing was originally 1.5, so I used those. Then I replumbed last summer to 2" and used the ones I saved. The only bummer was the flow switch - it fit the 1.5 fine, and would have fit 2" fine - but is a weld on, so in the plumbing upgrade I had to buy a new housing from Circupool (the switch itself just unscrews and can be transferred over). Call to verify about the Core 35, but I imagine it would be the same...
