Glacier Chiller

I’m very interested in one of these units. The problem is their customer service. I called the 800# to ask questions and got a blank stare I could hear over the phone. I then sent an email to their customer service address. Crickets. Sent it again. Crickets.

How am I supposed to have faith in a product where I can’t get an answer from their customer service # or their email?

Btw the questions I asked were ‘do you have a display anywhere or a decibel rating for your units, I’d like to hear how loud they are?’ And ‘is it better to oversize a unit or is there a point of diminishing returns?’

Okay, rant over. I understand the unit is essentially a swamp cooler with which I’m familiar but does anyone know if a 30k gallon is more effective than a 20k gallon unit when one’s pool is only 15k gallons? Does anyone have a decibel rating?

does anyone know if a 30k gallon is more effective than a 20k gallon unit when one’s pool is only 15k gallons?

I have a GPC-210 (30k gallon) on a 25.5k gallon pool and it works great. That would lead me to believe that a 20k gallon unit would be enough for a 15k gallon pool, but it’s certainly not a scientific analysis. I’m in Texas, so your lower humidity in Arizona should only make the performance that much better.

In terms of noise, I really don’t notice it, even when I’m around the end of the pool where our equipment is. Don’t get me wrong - it’s there, but more like a white noise because it’s just a large fan. I also have a wooden fence section in front of the equipment, which I’m sure deflects some of the noise. Having said that, I have a new neighbor who asked me what it was because he was wondering about the sound. My equipment is probably closer to his pool than my own, so he may hear it more than I do, but no previous neighbors ever complained about it.

I feel your frustration with their "front line" customer service. I emailed them to ask a few questions on plumbing and performance since I am located in a very "Humid" environment. They were less than helpful in answering my questions. I did however end up calling the tech support # and spoke with a technical guy to ask about bonding the unit. He was very helpful, much more willing to talk and answer any questions I had, which made me feel better.

Mine is sized for the size pool I have and works perfectly. I can't speak to running one that is oversized...but I would think it would be faster at cooling.

I still have mine covered for the winter right now, I could easily measure SPL level once I unwrap it for the summer.

If you have any questions that I did not answer in my post that @Newdude was kind enough to link above...ask away and I will try to help ya out.

Finally got a call back since first reaching out mid February. After hours too-I guess someone there likes doing their job.

I was told that although the larger unit would cool faster it wouldn’t GET any cooler which seemed obvious since it is a swamp cooler.

As for Db ratings I was told that Glacier would send me a chart which I will share with the group once received.

Update—/hold onto your hats…crickets from Glacier. I got a call waaaayyyy after hours but no response to my email.

That’s too bad. I’ve had my Glacier for 5 or 6 years and can attest that it works, but I never had a need to contact them. I did have to replace my fan motor last year, but just ordered it off of their website without talking to anyone. You might try finding a dealer. I bought mine through a dealer/installer and he answered many of my questions and gave me references, so I was comfortable with the purchase. Good luck!

Way back when, during the planning stage for my pool build, I asked the same question to Glacier Customer support. I will attach the email they responded to me with. As the old saying goes, go big or go home. However, I can say that the GPC-215 is LOUD. I would not want this next to my house where the vast majority of pool builds put the equipment. My pool equipment is out away from the house and near the street. For my next door neighbor in the location where the chiller is at, would be next to their driveway so there is no impact for them.

I’m on a corner lot in Phoenix…not a loud corner by any means but it isn’t a huge lot. So I put all my equipment next to my heat pump for hvac which is street side. When I run my pump at 3400 rpm I can sure hear it but it’s only the first week I’m running all out. Then it’ll be much lower which is remarkably quiet. I’m just afraid the glacier would be super loud and annoying to me sitting outside.

Alas, still no answer from Glacier.

Mine makes approximately the same level of noise as my outdoor HVAC Heat pump. It's really just a fan. My 2.7 HP Hayward TriStar VS pump on high makes more noise than the chiller for sure.

The water trickling out of the spray wand and dripping into the catch basin is not loud at all and really a pleasing sound to hear. The pump that sends the cold water back to the pool is really inaudible, seeing the water level drop in the basin is the only way to know the pump is running. I will say again, it's really just the fan that makes the noise.

It's almost past the freezing weather time here and I will uncover mine (forcast to frost this Saturday 4/9/22).
