Seminyak Indonesia
Hi guys, I’ve got a problem with the algae.
The pool is 18000 gal pool ,with cartridge filter.
Located in Indonesia where the average temperature is 95f or 35 degrees Celsius, pretty hot all day.
I’ve got the pool since 2 years now and never had problem.
This period have some raining and workers on my building for some renovation so maybe some dirty fall down in the pool.
It’s start to produce algae 10 days ago everyday worst.
At the beginning the cl was little bit low so I add some of, but it increase up to 3,5 and the ph increase too up to 8,5.
I added hcl (acido cloridrico) so now the ph decrease to 7,6( still high) but the cl still up to 3,5 and the algae getting worst and worst ,not possible to see the bottom of the pool .
I could use any swimming pool flocculation as I have the cart drive filter.
What shoul I do?
Please help me
.
Thank you

Floc will not solve an algea problem and will only gum up your filter.

Algae needs to be killed by high levels of chlorine maintained in the water along with brushing the pool to break the biofilm protecting the algae until the algae is killed.

You need your own test kit like the TF-100 Test Kits or Taylor K-2006C and then following the SLAM process. You need to figure out what test kit you can obtain that tests CYA and FC levels over 10.

You need to know your CYA level to determine the free chlorine level following FC/CYA Levels.

How do you chlorinate your pool?

Have you ever added stabilizer/CYA/Cyanuric Acid to your water?

I suggest you review ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry and Pool School - Trouble Free Pool

Thank you
Unfortunately here in indo is not easy to find test kit.
I’ve got only the chlorine and ph test.
I chlorine the pool with 2 tablet of chlorine every 2 days and the day I start so saw the algae I put 1 kg of chlorine powder in the pool to shock , but didn’t worked.
The chlorine value growing up to 3,5 same as the ph.

Without having test results and applying the science of the chemistry it is difficult to instruct you what to do.

The tablets you are using are likely adding CYA to the water. As your CYA level increases your FC needs will increase and the amount of chlorine you need to clear algae increases.

The easiest solution may be to drain the pool, clean it with chlorine, and fill it with fresh water. There is always the risk of a drained pool popping out of the ground if you have a high water table. There is a method to exchange water by pumping water out of the pool at the same time you are add it.
