Getting started - Buy new test kit or replace reagents in existing kit?

Hello,

I am taking over handling the chemicals for my pool after using a pool service for several years. The pool is in decent shape -- it's not green -- but I'm definitely fighting a little bit of algae. Tests at Leslie's have continually showed almost 0 FC and shocking hasn't helped increase that number.

The previous owner of the house had a couple of test kits in the shed. I'm trying to figure out if I should buy a brand new test kit or if I should replace the reagents. The test kit in better condition is a "Leslie's Deluxe Poolcare DPD Test Kit." It contains 8 reagents (R-0001, R-0002, R-0003, R-0007, R-0008, R-0009, R-0014, R-0015), a Cl and Ph "comparator" , and a Taylor 9198 sample tube, all of which are stored in a dark blue case. The reagents are expired, based on what I've read in another post on the forum. The picture below is from a youtube video that shows what the kit looks like.

I know I need a FAS-DPD test, which isn't part of this kit. Can I reuse the comparator and sample tube and just buy new reagents, or should I just scrap the whole thing and get a new kit?

Go to www.tftestkits.net for refills and the missing FAS-DPD test. They sell a nice empty box too that you can put it all in if you want to dress uo the testing Your comparitor block is fine.
Get a Speed Stir device- you will NOT regret it after using it. Makes testing sooooo much easier and faster.

You can reuse the one sample tube, but life will be easier if you get 2 more as long as you're ordering stuff anyway. Then you can test FC/CC, CH, and TA without having to rinse in between. Along the same lines, if you get the SpeedStir or SmartStir, add 2 extra magnetic stirrers.

Proper tools can make you $. Once you have the tools restocking the reagents is easy and inexpensive.
