Getting FC Levels Right

We are about one month into the TFP method, having done a SLAM after opening. I'm trying to find the sweet spot for FC relative to my CYA and use of the pool.

Generally speaking, we have been getting FC to 7 ppm just after sunset. CYA is 40. Over the course of 24 hours, it has been pretty consistent in that it loses around 3.5 ppm. Pool Math recommends FC between 3 and 7. I've been adding to 7 to account for the loss over the day, so that the FC always is around 3 at least.

Is 7 too high, or have I been adding correctly to keep the FC at appropriate levels given the CYA and use?

You are cutting it close, FC of 3 is minimum, your were below that several times last week. Have you done an OCLT to ensure you don't have any organics?

If you pass OCLT, I would go higher than 7. These are minimums. I tend to run HOT so that I don't go below. Your SLAM is 16 so you can be below that. Say 8 or 9 is fine. That would account for an unforeseen surprise.

Thank you. If I got to 8 or 9, that is not too high for kids to swim in?
You can safely swim in a pool as long as the FC is above the minimum and at or below SLAM level based on your CYA. You must also be able to see the bottom of the pool in the deep end of the pool.
