Generic systems

Thanks for the tips. Since the extra 4 hours I out it on last night, the level today has been consistent at 2.5 and slowly raising which is acceptable. At 2.5 my pool won’t have anything growing and it should be fine.
For your cya of 80 the minimum fc level is 4ppm & target 🎯 is 6ppm.
FC/CYA Levels
Skirting minimum is asking for trouble - 2.5 is an unnecessary risk. Dose w/ liquid chlorine to target or a smidge higher & enjoy clear, safe water while you dial in your swg.

I'm glad you got it up and running. To get the most out of the SWG, you should adopt the TFP method of pool care. First step is to get a TF-100 based test kit along with the Taylor K-1766 salt test kit. It's the best value for residential pool owners. Another option is the Taylor K-2006C. Following TFP guidelines will ensure your SWG doesn't work harder than it needs to and that it lasts as long as it should. Tracking pH, TA, calcium and CSI levels will help to prevent cell scaling and premature wear. With proper chemistry you won't need to soak the cell in muriatic acid, which removes rare metals coating the plates.

The only way running FC at 2.5 will work is with a very low CYA level. TFP recommends higher CYA for levels for SWG pools. Check out the FC/CYA Levels. Take some time to read through Pool School and feel free to post questions.

Best wishes!
great tips. I have already ordered the K-1766 and it should arrive today. I have just added some liquid chlorine to lift it up to 4ppm. will also read the article

This is the reason I was leaning towards the universal circupool line as well - it just seemed like a good idea to have a backup plan for easily accessible replacement cells with the availability issues we keep having. 🤞 fingers crossed that that my terribly undersized unit fires up after i get my salt in this year & I don’t have to make this decision quite yet. After termites, a transmission, dishwasher, mower, & countless other necessary home repairs I’m tapped out!

I installed a Calimar CMARSHA40-3Y a year ago and am happy with it so far. As mentioned, there are a bunch of similar units on the market that are probably made in the same factory with different stickers on the unit, and this was the cheapest. Seems to be well-built, heavy duty box etc. I too was a bit hesitant given the warning about out-of-stock items on the Pool Supply Unlimited website, but I don't think these Calimar SWCGs were part of that shortage -- I placed the order, it was shipped from their own warehouse the same day (maybe the next) and I had it 3 days later.

Chlorine generation seems in line with expectations (I don't believe it had specs published, and I saw references from 1.3 to 1.45 in random searches). With CYA 70-80, at the peak of last summer I was able to keep up with cover off on the hottest days (air temp highs in the 100s and water temps in the high 80s) with less than 8 hours of 100% runtime. And most summer days with the cover on and all fall/winter days I run it a lot less (I use a WiFi plug to easily set the runtime). It generated all the way down to ~50 degree water temp (so into December and starting again in February here).

that's great to hear.
so far I had it running for a few weeks and I am happy.
one slight issue might be the salt level. the digital measurement on the control unit seems to be on the low side. it reads 2500 while my salt level is 3400. Currently, it is saying low salt and check cell at 3400 although the manual says 3200-4000.
What's also interesting is that on the door there is a printed instruction that says salt level 3600-4500
