I asked him to build it flush but with a gap for cover. Now I am wondering since we have many tiny feet in the form of grandchildren that come to swim, if I should fill that gap with something. In my mind its a T made of heavy duty foam that can be cut in pieces to navigate around the gap which has 1.5-1.75 inch gaps depending on the spot, but not sure if there is a reality to match my imagination. I would welcome opinions on first-whether or not I should worry about a gap that size with feet and second if so, if anyone has solutions or things you have tried that I should stay away from. Pics to show all along edge. Thanks in advance!

What about putting a slit in a pool noodle? Place it to hug the edge of the deck?
we tried that, that was my first thought too. It doesnt hold up and doesn't seem to be a way to hold it on and just pops off if bumped at all. Tried pipe insulation thinking it would be a little more heavy duty but it is about the same. I think it is going to take something that goes over top of both that doesn't get hot or hurt little feet. I honestly think the gap is less than ideal for their small feet. I can easily see one going down there even if just partially/toes.
