Is there a reliable way to figure out how many gallons our pool is? it’s fairly rectangular, but has large steps with a seating area on one end and 2 ledges. I feel like this is a good first step to being able to better care for it.
Thanks everyone!

Draw a sketch of your pool. Can you partition it into approximately-rectangular sections with a level bottom, right-angle triangles (or close approximations) with a level bottom, and those two shapes with slanted bottoms? (You can treat your stairs as a series of flat-bottomed rectangles with different depths, or as a single rectangle with a slanted bottom; the stairstep pattern approximates a slanted surface.)
  • Rectangular areas with a level bottom have a volume of Length x Width x Depth.
  • Right-angle triangles are half of a rectangle, so right-triangle areas with a level bottom have a volume of Length x Width x Depth / 2.
  • For any areas with slanted bottoms, replace "Depth" in the above calculations with "(Depth at the shallow side + Depth at the deep side) / 2".
Measure everything in feet. It's ok to round to the nearest foot or half-foot -- you don't need to be more precise than that. When you do the multiplications for each section, you'll end up with volumes in cubic feet. Add up the volumes of all the sections, then multiply that sum by 7.5 to get US gallons.

If you look on the bottom of this version of PoolMath, Estimating Pool Volume. it can help you- you just have to account for stairs and such. Best to break the pool up in sections if that makes it easier for you.

I very much appreciate you trying to help, but you lost me. 😵‍💫

Thank you so much! I will give it a go!
