Furniture flies into pool during storm

Hey all, I'm new here but thought I could share a little experience I just had. We have some deck furniture that we put by our pool. Nice table and umbrella. We had some sort of wind burst and hail and it blew the furniture into the pool. We've had to re-think our furniture options and consider replacing the furniture with something a little safer and possibly anchoring it to the ground or future safety fence...

The umbrella is broken. Everything else is fine, including the pool liner. It was a huge wake-up call. Time for something different, I think. Table has a glass top. :(

Since I caught it on our home security camera, I thought it was pretty cool to watch. You can see it here.

Ok, I'm very interested in your umbrella setup. So can you tell me how big your umbrellas are and where you got them? I'm looking for something sturdy that won't break during heavy winds as well as will stay put. I'm not necessarily looking for something we'll keep open during bad wind, but something that will be ok sitting out all the time, closed up when not in use.

We leave our umbrellas open most of the time and try to close them when it is stormy or windy. We've had those two bases for 5 years with a few different umbrellas in them. We mostly buy umbrellas from Target or Lowes, the usual 8 or 9 footers for 80 - 120 bucks. Nothing special.

There are pool pics showing the umbrellas in my pool thread, link in sig.
