Freezing Temps Expected

at what psi will my pump shut off or cause bigger issues? I won’t be home until later this afternoon, hopefully after we’ve had 3 hrs above freezing and sun on the equipment. I am really trying to avoid a full shut down and drain. The freeze will be over in 24 hours

I am lost as to what your situation is right now.
Ha. This thread did take a few different routes. My current concern is my filter psi gage went from 20 psi to 28 overnight. I’m assuming the filters are freezing inside the shell in some spots. At what psi do I hit the oh sht button? Will my pump stop running at a certain psi ?

Knock on wood, it looks like I make it through with no damage. Thank you to everyone who chimed in.
Here in East texas we were about 60 straight hrs below freezing and I think that’s the max I could handle. If (when) we forecast anything longer than this I will probably pull the plug, literally.
We were lucky enough to keep power the whole time but may not be so lucky next time. My unexpected issue was my cartridge filters starting to freeze and my psi shooting up.
I am also going to plan for a better covering for the equipment. Whether it be tented or a structured tarp. Maybe even can have a heat source like a chicken coop lamp.

Small ice chips / slush from the pool was likely making it through the skimmer and pump baskets, collecting in the filter. For you, I'd remove the cartridges when this happens again. If we see it reported more, it may become a new reccomendation for cartridge people.

Hard to imagine anything of size getting through the pump impeller. I think it is more likely the water in the filter slushing up as temperatures approach freezing.

If and when the next freeze comes, if I had to temporarily winterize …. I know I have to cut power, open the plugs on my pump, filter, heater. Do I need to drain water from the pool and clear the return lines?
Lower water level below the skimmers? Or just put plastic water bottles in the skimmers? My pad is above pool level.
