Freeze Protection

Some things to check:

The VS pump's thermal mode is actuated by a sensor on the motor, it has nothing to do with the ET (the ET has its own freeze mode and uses its own sensor for that). So if the pump motor isn't actually getting cold enough, the thermal mode won't kick on. It's the reason Pentair's VS manual warns you not to rely on the pump's thermal mode for the pool's freeze protection, because it's based on temp of the pump, not water temp. Is your pump in a shed, maybe, or otherwise protected from cold air?

The thermal mode can be disengaged, so check that. It's a setting in the pump, not the ET.

The thermal mode temp threshold can be adjusted, so check that. It's a setting in the pump, not the ET.

The VS manual is pretty easy to follow for checking and adjusting these settings.

NOTE: This thread is jumping around with questions and observations for different brands. I'm only sharing what I know about my Pentair pump... Some or none of it may apply to other brands, but maybe the principals are the same?

for anyone who wants to know. per the manual the anti-freeze mode on the intelliflo vs pump doesn't work if the pump is hooked up to the easytouch system. therefore i believe you have to turn on freeze protection in easytouch for it to be protected.
