Hello to All,

Just wanted to know if anyone in, around or near the Houston area has needed to apply a lot more bleach lately?

I use the HEB Bravo 8.25% High Concentration, and it seems like no matter how much I use, the levels do not stay up for long. No signs of algae or other, but just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this since the weekend? I know we've had some good rains, so maybe that is throwing everything off some.

Finally, does the "scented" bleach [same 8.25% concentration] not work as well as the non-scented? My daughter picked-up the scented so not sure if that's it, but I always thought 8.25 is 8.25. Also, when I add this bleach, you get some of the bubbles at first.

Thank you very much, tstex

I am not in TX but I can tell you in the last couple of weeks I am up 0.5 ppm usage per day, not surprising we are getting near the summer solstice. I have no idea what they put in scented bleach to scent it but I do know I don't want it in my pool. The site recommendations are very clear "plain old bleach" not scented or splash-less, I would save it for laundry and get some unscented.

Definitely do not want bleach that has any additives. So for now ignore it. Please post complete set of test results. For example, if your CYA is low, you can be using more chlorine because the sun is burning it off quickly. And/or if your CC (TC-FC) is > 0.5 you could have something growing, even if you can't see evidence (algae can hide).

I live in Katy and I use the HEB Bravo brand also and have not had any issues. The only thing that I would check is the CYA level. When my CYA level dropped below 30, the chlorine was disappearing quickly. Once I bumped that up, it was more consistent. Right now, I lose about 2.5 ppm a day.

Probably several reasons your experiencing more FC loss.

- Longer days so pool is exposed to UV rays longer.
- Pool is getting used more frequently, which eats up more chlorine.
- Warmer water means more bacteria your FC needs to kill
- If you're storing bleach outside or in area without AC, your concentration of the bleach you are adding could be lower.

Thanks for everyone's reply - greatly appreciated.

Yes, I'm going back to HEB regular scent. I'll also do some overall pool tests again and post the numbers...I also always store all my bleach/acid inside...I'm also going to clean my 4 filter cartridges as well...maybe anything stored-up in there is using the FC quicker.

Thanks again and I'll post back soon, tstex

Careful storing muriatic acid inside. It's corrosive and if the caps are vented, the fumes themselves can cause metal to corrode. It's best to store that outside somewhere that is ventilated and away from kids or pets.

Thanks spin - my caps are not ventilated.

Does temperature/heat or other degrade the potency of the 32% if left in garage? I buy 2 at a time in a box and usually leave them in the box in the washer/dryer room of the hosue. Thanks again..note: Pet is 12 yr golden retriever and both girls are 18 & 15.

Muriatic Acid doesn't degrade like chlorine, so you are fine storing it in hotter temps. Even in garage however, I would avoid keeping it around metals. There are several old threads you can search for that deal with storage, as well as some people having items ruined because of the acid fumes.

After hearing about them, I now put mine in a plastic Rubbermaid garbage can and let it sit on side of house
