I just wanted to follow up on this thread to let everyone know where we landed. Basically, the concerns over coping forms combined with the rising costs of concrete in my area coupled with the fact pavers were still available locally at reasonable prices lead us to just scrap the stamped concrete deck completely. I've got pictures of the paver install we went with starting at this post in my build thread.
But, I also wanted to post back over here to see if I could grab the attention of someone who knows deck installs and what might cause mortar to crumble in the joint between a fiberglass step insert and the coping laying over top of it. I've got an explanation and pic of that starting on this post in my build thread.
