Would be nice for you to offer constructive information instead of negative remarks you know? I'm doing my best and whose to say these chemicals aren't necessary- I was enjoying my pool just fine till the pump stopped doing its job and thus I have new problems to manage

You misunderstood me- it's hard to see you fighting self created problems, that's all. In terms of steps which I would take in your place:
- buy yourself good test kit. We recommend TF100 or K2006
- stop adding things to your water based on pool store advice
- remove all chemical dispensers out of your pool
- get your pump fixed
- add 1 gal of bleach right away and keep adding 1/3 of gal daily thereafter until your test kit arrives and you could see the actual numbers
- do not add anything else to the water
