This will be my first winter with a new pool. The installer came to winterize and they left a little floating thing which dispenses chemicals to keep pool not too green they said.

Now it's been 2 weeks and the pool is obviously not as nice as when the filter is working.

Should I leave it as is? Should I had liquid chlorine?

I have also contacted the company to know what I should do, but the person that closed it said there is nothing to ad to the pool after closing.

Just want to get a second opinion here.

Thanks

In most cases, once the pool is closed (coverd and pump not running), there's not much you can do. You may have to just let it go and open as soon as you can next spring to get a handle on the chemistry.

Below are a couple links for your reference.

Once the pool water gets below about 60F, not much is going to grow too bad. "Not Too Green" is a pretty low bar that they are aiming at, but I'm sure they'll have some products to sell you if it does go green over the winter ;)

If the water was pretty cool, and it's now covered (therefore blocking the light) then chances are you'll be fine. If you open in the spring to a green pool...we can fix that without adding a bunch of fancy (read: expensive) products.

I have the local pool store just winterize my pool now (pump it down, blow the lines, install the cover etc), mostly because I can spend a couple hundred bucks for two young guys to do it rather than spend a couple days complaining my back hurts ;) I do not have them add any chemicals, I just raise my FC up toward the top of the normal range, and shut off everything once the pool water gets below about 60. This season, I opened to a horror show of a pool...as shown below ;)
