First time testing results... what are my next steps? TF-Pro Salt kit

Hello all,

We put in a SWG pool about a year ago, and during that time we've had a pool person coming weekly to do the maintenance. But we've decided to begin doing all the maintenance ourselves. I got the TF Pro test kit and here are my first results:

Cl/Br = 5 / 10 (though it looks much yellower that 5/10) ...I attached a picture.
pH = 8.2 ...slightly high, how do a lower?
FC = 8 ppm
CC = 0
CH = 300 ...TFP pool school only mentions, vinyl, fiberglass, and plaster. We have pebbletec, is there an ideal level of CH for this material?
TA = 70
CYA = 30 ... for SWG pool this is way low right? How do I raise this?

Visually pool water looks clean and clear.

Thank you in advance for the help!!

Welcome to TFP! :wave: If there are no concerns about algae, then yes, lowers your pH into the 7.2-7.8 range with muriatic acid. Yes, your CYA is low for a salt pool. In the winter we can get away with a lower CYA (below 70) since the sun isn't as intense, but I would still get it up to at least 50-60 for now.

If you have any suspicions about algae or cloudy water, let us know or do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test.

Good job testing your own water. :goodjob:

Thanks all!

I don't see any evidence of algae.

To manage the CYA and pH. Can I add both Cyanuric Acid and muriatic acid at the same time? Or should I do one, wait and test again, then add the other?

Also curious, with the low level of CYA in my pool, is that because my pool guy wasn't properly maintaining it? I sometimes would check the security cam footage, and he would frequently be in and out within about a 10 min period. I would see him use test strips, and sometimes he'd pour some liquid into the pool, but I never once saw him do any extensive testing like the TF Pro kit requires.

Yes. Use the sock method for the CYA. Pour the muriatic acid slowly at a pool return with the pump running.

The pool guy did what they do. Testing is not much of a concern. If the pool is not green, all is good. If it is green, they charge you extra to clean it.

Panty hose is in the pool.
Be careful that it doest rip or tear. Next time use and actual sock (s). I have a big pool and would need many socks so I tie up my CYA in a T-shirt like a Hobo sack on a pole.
