Hello everyone!
I am a first time pool owner, bought a house with a 14k gallon IG plaster pool. Have read through the pool basics several times.

Pool was previously salt water and had SWG, but was converted to chlorine several years ago. Pool was being maintained weekly by the previous owner’s pool guy. His last visit was 3 weeks ago.

I tested when my Taylor k2006 test kit came in. Could not complete FC and CC tests. Added several scoops of powder without reaction, except the water turned cloudy. Tested twice, same result. Coincidentally left the second test mixture on the counter for a while and when I came back it was pink, but discarded it with adding regent as it had been sitting at least 20minutes.

Remaining results as follows:
pH 7.6
TA 60
CH 510
CYA 50

Not sure where to go from here. Have purchased 3 gallons of pool chlorine.

Also, pool appears green but has been green on the many occasions I have seen it, even while being regularly maintained. Even old pictures from 8+ years ago in sale listings show it as green. I am not sure what to think. It does have yellowish flooring.IMG_3883.jpegIMG_3885.jpegIMG_3883.jpeg

Any thoughts and feedback greatly appreciated.

Thank you! I am excited to be here, hoping for TFPC this summer and beyond.
For FC, I added several scoops of r-0870 powder to the water and after 4+ scoops, it still didn’t turn pink. Not sure if I should have kept going with more scoops? Water turned cloudy at most.

Welcome to TFP!! :shark:

What does this mean? (quote above).

Add 5ppm of liquid chlorine now.

Start the slam process now. Link-->SLAM Process

This means your FC is 0. You only need to add one heaping scoop. If no pink, your FC=0.

Follow my instructions in post #2.....

That was my suspicion. I don’t have access to the pool tonight, but can start SLAM process tomorrow. To confirm my understanding, I will adjust pH with muriatic acid to 7.2, then aim for FC levels of 20 (given my CYA of 50). I have PoolMath installed. Thank you so much for the feedback. It is such a new world I am learning.
