This is my first post and my question is how to prepare my pool for a 7 day vacation. I don't have anyone that can stop by to help so I'm wondering if it's best to slam the pool, or to just run the pump at low speed and the Intellichlor, and leave the cover on?

Most of what I've read here seems to say SLAM the pool and leave it. My pool builder says run the pump and the Intellichlor.

Since this is my first post, I'm not sure if my pool specs will show up as part of the signature since I don't see them now, but here they are, just in case:

18x36 inground vinyl pool
Pentair Clean N Clear Cartridge filter 420
Pentair Intellichlor IC40
Pentair VS pump
Outdoors with Cover

Welcome to the forum.

Is there a reason you can't just run the SWG as you are doing now? Why do you not have confidence that the SWG will maintain FC level? Do you normally have to supplement with bleach over the course of a week?

Raising the pool to shock level before you leave is good insurance, as well as covering the pool.

We leave our pool with an IC40 for weeks at a time. Stays perfectly clear. That is the beauty of a SWCG.

As Dom said - are having issues maintaining your FC with the SWCG?

If you do cover the pool, be aware it will take less chlorine to maintain it without the sun shining on the water burning off the FC.

I just didn't want to run it if not necessary and save the electricity. As far as normal operation, the SWG does great and I rarely have to add chlorine. I'll go with running the pump and the SWG. Thanks!

Does anyone think higher than 20% on the salt water generator is necessary? Given that the pool will be covered for the entire seven days
