Just had our pool installed this Spring and we have a company coming to close it on Monday. Been reading through some posts to try and figure out what I need to do from the chemicals side of things.

I've turned off my heater so that the water temperature can start falling (it's currently at 83 degrees). Did the full battery of tests yesterday and the pH, CYA, and Salt are all slightly low, but nothing major. Had a bunch of kids in the pool splashing around for a few hours yesterday, so that should bring up the pH somewhat. Since I'm about to put a safety cover on the pool, does the CYA being slightly low matter? I've jumped by SWG up to 100% to try to get to a SLAM level (I also have liquid chlorine that can be added if need be). With the CYA at 60, I'm trying to get the Chlorine up to 24ppm and then let it start falling, right? What about the Salt? Should I top that off before closing?

All sounds good. No need to add salt and CYA. CYA will just degrade and you will lose salt through snow/rain and replacement. Do both in the spring.

Thanks for the reply!

My FC was 8ppm yesterday and, according to Pool Math, it would take my SWG 60 hours running at 100% to get my FC up to 24ppm. I do have one, 128oz. bottle of 10% liquid chlorine. Should I add that to my water to help bring my FC up faster?

Running a cell at 100%, 24/7 is one of the quickest ways to damage a cell. Run it max 80%.

Use liquid chlorine if you can.
So I used the liquid chlorine to get the level up to 24ppm. From what I've read, I'm supposed to let the chlorine fall naturally over the next several days (closing is on Monday). I dropped my SWG to 10%. Looking at my pool specs, does that sound about right? I also removed the solar cover so that the water temp drops overnight. Thanks!
